Driving Canada: A Digital Exhibition
Qissa, in partnership with the Toronto Ward Museum, is developing Driving Canada: A Digital Exhibition with support from the Digital Museums Canada investment program.
Driving Canada is an interactive online exhibition that highlights the oral histories of immigrants and refugees in Canada who currently drive — or have driven — Uber. These narratives, collected by Qissa in collaboration with the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21, offer insight into how newcomers navigate precarity, exclusion, and survival in Canada’s gig economy.
This exhibition will use animations, soundscapes, and other multimedia tools to create a dynamic and immersive storytelling experience. Visitors will engage with the stories by stepping into the role of the interviewer, asking questions while virtually driving through Toronto — simulating a rideshare journey shaped by layered histories and lived realities.
A core component of the exhibition is the ongoing collaboration with the interviewees, who will contribute to the creative process as consultants and co-creators.
The digital exhibition will be free to access through a dedicated website and will be available in both of Canada’s official languages.
The exhibition will be developed with the support of Digital Museums Canada, an investment program managed by the Canadian Museum of History.
